Panama Private Income Retiree Visa

Rentista Retirado (Ley 9) — private income, not a lifetime pension

The English label Private Income Retiree Visa is Panama’s Rentista Retirado category: a five-year, renewable SNM permit for people who can fund B/.850 per month from a Certificate of Deposit at Banco Nacional de Panamá or Caja de Ahorros. It is not Pensionado. It is not citizenship.

If you have a lump sum, inheritance, or savings you can park in a Panamanian state-bank CD — and you do not have a lifetime pension letter — this is the consult. Scope and fee are confirmed on the call. There is no public Stripe checkout on this page.

What This Visa Is

Servicio Nacional de Migración lists Rentista Retirado under Permanent Resident → Políticas Especiales on its permisos migratorios index. The operative sentence is Artículo 196: a monthly renta of ochocientos cincuenta balboas (850.00) that comes exclusively from interest on a five-year depósito a plazo fijo at Banco Nacional de Panamá or Caja de Ahorros, free of gravamen.

English-language firms often sell that category as a Private Income Retiree Visa because the income is private CD interest, not a government or company pension. The legal file is still PPT-RR. Do not confuse it with SNM’s separate solvencia económica por depósito a plazo fijo track (Art. 192), which is a B/.300,000 three-year CD at any general-license bank — a different product.

The Traveler Passport Angle

People searching this category often want the Panama-issued travel document that sits next to the residency file — not a nationality change. SNM’s own Rentista Retirado prórroga checklist tells the foreigner to bring a pasaporte panameño at renewal (police certificate excepted). That is a government-source hook for the traveler-passport conversation.

It is still not Panamanian citizenship. Autoridad de Pasaportes de Panamá (APAP) is the state body that issues and regulates Panamanian passports. The residency permit is SNM. We separate those two offices on the call so you do not buy a “passport hack” story.

Deep dive: Panama Traveler Passport.

How to Qualify

You qualify when you can document Art. 196: B/.850 per month of interest only from a five-year, unencumbered plazo fijo at Banco Nacional de Panamá or Caja de Ahorros, plus the SNM civil packet.

Income rule (Art. 196): B/.850 per month, exclusively from interest on a five-year plazo fijo at Banco Nacional de Panamá or Caja de Ahorros, free of liens. The SNM checklist does not publish the principal that produces that interest — the bank rate decides it. We size it at intake.

From the official PPT-RR PDF: notarized power of attorney and application (parents’ names and nationalities), three photographs, authenticated passport copy, police certificate, health certificate, sworn personal-history form, bank certification (amount, interest, term, unencumbered), authenticated CD copy, and dependent extras if you add family.

Withdrawing the plazo fijo after the first five years, or breaking Ley 9 / the immigration decrees, causes loss of the incentives and rights that law grants — that warning is on the SNM PDF, not a blog invention.

What You Receive

  • Fit screen — Private Income / Rentista vs Pensionado vs Art. 192 solvencia CD vs company
  • CD sizing discussion — interest floor vs current bank rate; we do not quote a stale principal from memory
  • Document map aligned to the SNM PPT-RR list
  • Traveler-passport briefing — what SNM actually wrote vs what forums claim
  • Filing path — if the file is real, we coordinate local specialists; paid execution can move to the Rentista filing page after the call

What MLL Does

  • Stops you from opening a CD for a category you do not qualify for
  • Separates Ley 9 Rentista from Pensionado and from the B/.300,000 solvencia CD
  • Coordinates SNM filing through local immigration specialists when you proceed
  • Does not promise citizenship, visa-free lists, or a DIY passport

This page is consult-first. MyLatinLife is the concierge. SNM decides the permit. The bank decides the CD.

The Process

  1. Book the call — income source, capital, dependents, whether you care about the travel document or only the residency card
  2. Fit decision — Private Income / Rentista, Pensionado, solvencia, or a different country
  3. Bank step — only if PPT-RR is the route: plazo fijo language SNM expects
  4. Civil packet — apostilles, police, health, power of attorney
  5. SNM filing — local specialists submit PPT-RR
  6. Renewal briefing — five-year grant, same-term prórroga, pasaporte panameño on the official renewal list

Who This Is For

  • People with capital and no lifetime pension letter
  • Heirs, lump-sum retirees, and savers who can immobilize a five-year CD at the two named banks
  • Clients who heard “Private Income Retiree” or “Panama traveler passport” and need the legal category named
  • Households comparing this against Pensionado before they spend on the wrong letters

Who This Is Not For

  • Lifetime pension of B/.1,000+/month — use Panama Pensionado
  • Remote salary or business profits as the income story — Art. 196 is CD interest only
  • Anyone who will not lock funds for five years at Banco Nacional de Panamá or Caja de Ahorros
  • Anyone who wants a second citizenship from this file alone
  • Anyone who already knows they want paid PPT-RR filing — that checkout lives on Panama Rentista Visa

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Private Income Retiree the same as Panama Rentista?

Yes as a legal category: SNM Rentista Retirado (PPT-RR), Ley 9. This page is the consult-first English name and traveler-passport briefing. Paid PPT-RR filing is Panama Rentista Visa.

How much do I have to deposit?

SNM publishes the interest floor (B/.850/month), not a principal. The deposit that produces that interest depends on the current CD rate at Banco Nacional de Panamá or Caja de Ahorros. We size it on the call.

Can I work in Panama on this visa?

This is not a work-permit product. Investing and owning a business is a separate conversation from being a local employee. We do not invent work rights the SNM checklist does not grant.

Does this make me Panamanian?

No. Naturalization is a later, separate track after qualifying residency. See the Panama naturalization conversation only after the residency file is real.

How is this different from the B/.300,000 solvencia CD?

Art. 192 solvencia económica por apertura de depósito a plazo fijo is a different SNM PDF: B/.300,000, three-year term, any general-license bank in Panama, funds from abroad. Private Income / Rentista is Ley 9 / Art. 196 at the two named state banks and an interest-income test.

Where does the traveler passport fit?

Read Panama Traveler Passport. SNM’s Rentista renewal list is the government-source mention of a pasaporte panameño. APAP issues passports. Neither office hands out citizenship through this consult.
