SAFETY IN TEPOZTLÁN
Tepoztlán is a very safe city. You should have no troubles walking the main streets during the day or night. The locals are used to touritsts here and it’s very welcoming. The one precaution we suggest is: if you’re staying far away from the main strip, perhaps take a taxi to your house/hotel or Airbnb as opposed to walking. Although crime is rare here, the farther you get from the main street with all the bars and restaurants, the more quiet and deserting things get. Don’t take any chances!

IS TEPOZTLÁN A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE?
Tepoztlán would suit many expats well. It is touristy during the weekends, but during the week it is extremely relaxed and peaceful. The cost of living is low, it’s safe and the surrounding hills are beautiful.
However, it’s a small town, and many folks may find themselves wanting for more action during the week.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that there is a lot of drinking on the main avenue by tourists during the weekend. Some may find this distasteful. But, other than that, we consider Tepoztlán worth checking out for a prospective expat.
