San Francisco De Macoris, DR – City Guide for Nomads and Expats

San Francisco De Macoris, Dominican Republic

Located in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. A small city with many shopping malls and fast-food restaurants, which makes it appear culturally similar to the United States.

Located a 2 hour drive from Santo Domingo near Santiago. This is the type of city that is not on the typical tourist’s radar.

POPULATION: 250,000

RENT AN APARTMENT IN SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS

$400.00 is what I’d allow for. Naturally, people will try to get more rent out of you because you’re foreign, but more than $600.00 for an apartment in San Francisco is a proper fleecing.

NIGHTLIFE IN SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS

7.5/10

The nightlife here exceeds what you’d expect from a small city. Apparently, nightclubs are a good way to launder drug money which explains why there are so many good ones in San Francisco.

I recommend: Skuer BarA fairly upper-class joint, which means it’s less likely that the men will be offended by you coming to their country and stealing their women. Although this place is popular now, bar recommendations are almost useless in San Francisco, as the hotspots change so often.

FINAL THOUGHTS

There is nothing to do in San Francisco. Also, if you do not have at least intermediate Spanish, I’d suggest giving it a pass in favour of Puerto Plata.

OVERALL RATING: 6/10
