Updated in 2022.
A small beach resort town visited by people from Lima during the holidays.
Important to go in either December or January or else it’s likely to be a ghost town: no women, no party, no fun. Be sure to go in high season!

NIGHTLIFE IN MANCORA
6.25/10
Not a whole lot, being a small town and all, but steps up to the plate during high season. Lots of crazy foreigners with some Peruvian tourists sprinkled in. Nightlife in Mancora is good for a city of it’s size, but you won’t find anything close to what you’d encounter in a big city like Lima.
I recommend: Sirena Bar. It’ll do.
RENT AN APARTMENT IN MANCORA
Beach houses can rent for about $1000/month. Best thing to do is to split one of these between 4 or 5 people if you plan to rent an apartment in Mancora.
COST OF LIVING IN MANCORA
HOSTEL DORM BED/NIGHT
$10.00 or so; Loki’s has beds for $9.00. Probably the best place to stay in Mancora.
TAXI
$2-3 should you need to take one.
BOTTLE OF BEER
$2.50
GROCERIES
Milk (1L)= $2.00 Loaf of Bread= $2.50 Eggs= $2.00 Water (1.5L)= $1.00 Cigarettes= $5.00
IS MANCORA SAFE?
Safety in Mancora is fairly good, except for infrequent reports of robberies and sexual assaults on secluded beaches. But these incidences are not particularly common.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Work in a surf shop, teach surfing? Not really sure what else you could arrange here.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Not a very attractive city but good beach vibes.
Kind of reminds me of Manta, Ecuador.
I’d recommend it to recharge if you’re exhausted from doing the Inca Trail or from an epic Latin American surf tour, but it doesn’t hold much worth apart from that.
OVERALL RATING: 6/10
