Valparaiso, Chile – City Guide for Nomads and Expats

Located on the Pacific coast of Central Chile.

Bright, colourful houses and a thriving bohemian feel/culture. A major port and educational centre for Chile. It’s quite a pleasant city, the women are cute in an artsy sort of way, the food is decent by Chilean standards and the nightlife is fairly strong for a city of only 300,000 or so.

POPULATION: 300,000

NIGHTLIFE IN VALPARAISO

6.75/10

Small but fun. Most bars and clubs are located around Plaza Anibal Pinto, near the ocean. You may want to head to Vina del Mar if you’re looking for a bit more action.

I recommend: LaCantera BarA great place to get a drink and listen to some good music.

SAFETY IN VALPARAISO, CHILE

Violent crime is not a problem, but theft is. You have a better chance of getting robbed or pickpocketed here than in either Santiago or Conception.

FINAL THOUGHTS

A charming city with a hip bohemian feel. However, if it is principally women you want instead of a hip bohemian feel, I’d look elsewhere. But if you’re an artist or artist at heart, there is something to be gained by a visit to Valparaiso.
